Experienced Animal Services Officer

Description: $3,756-$4,753/month. Opens 02/18/10 closes 3/12/10. One position only, concerned w/prevention & elimination of conflicts between animals & community. On routine basis enforce state/local laws & ordinances to protect the safety & rights of the public & welfare of animals; Perform tasks/responsibilities to include responding to reports of vicious animals, animal cruelty, animal pick-up and confinement, responding to property damage complaints, inspection of containment facilities, preparing reports, representing the City at public hearings, testifying in court, and performing some vaccines and sanitizing activities. The bulk of the work is performed in the field driving a department vehicle and responding to reported violations or area of need.

Education/Experience: 1 yr. exp. as animal control/service officer for a Municipal or County agency; High school diploma or GED, AA degree preferred. Experience involving intensive public contact is desirable. Possession of, or ability to obtain a Washington drivers license and evidence of prior safe driving record required. Successful completion of police department background investigation; Ability to pass psychological interview, medical and polygraph examinations. Attendance at the Animal Control Officer Academy sponsored by the Washington Animal Control Association is preferred and will be required within one year of hire date.

Bonus of $1,000; to be paid in two $500 installments with the first being upon employment and the second upon completion of probationary period.
